KURUKSHETRA - Dharma Kshetra
Its name has been immortalised in the great epic of Mahabharata battle between the Kauravas and the Pandavas. It is a very ancient Thirtha kshetra of India. It was the yaga bhoomi or the sacrificial alter of Brahma. Lord Krishna is said to have been here during one of the Solar eclilpses for Thirtha snan and performed sacrifices here for 12 years.It was here where Sri Krishna showed his Vishwaroopa and where he pronounced the ‘Bhagavadgeetha’ and Vishnu Sahasranama.
Sri Madhwacharya had also come here in one of his journeys and showed his disciple Sri Satya Thirtha his gaint sized mace during his Bheemavatara and the place where Bheeshma had slept on a bed of Arrows. Sri Vadiraja thirtha swamiji had also visited the place as mentioned in his ‘Thirtha Prabhanda’.
